About Acorn & Ivy
Acorn & Ivy started as an experiment in our kitchen. Our local church group wanted to teach the youth in our area about pioneer life. The leaders were asked to pick something to demonstrate, and as wondered what I could demonstrate, everyone else was quickly voicing their preference:
"I'll do candle dipping," said one.
"I can show them how to make butter," said another.
"I will do a patchwork quilt," volunteered a third.
Before I knew what I was saying, I chimed in with, "I can show them how to make home-made soap." I have no idea why on earth I would say such a thing. I knew absolutely nothing about making soap, but I figured, "Those pioneers and settlers had to make their own soap; if they can do it, so can I!"
Let's just say there were a few less than optimal results along the way.
With some study, some help, some support from my hubbie, I managed to learn how to make soap I was happy enough with that I was willing to let others see it. Most of them were amazed that I had made these lovely smelling bars of soap. The next thing out of their mouths was invariably, "How much for a batch? I want to give these as Christmas presents!"
What started out as a momentary lapse of reason, turned into a hobby, and now, here I am, sharing my soap with you.
